OSG FAQ
OSG Frequently Asked Questions
Q) "Do you sell parts for Do It Yourself repairs? These parts sure are hard to find!"
A) They sure are Billy, they sure are. No, OSG does not sell parts for DIY install. There are numerous reasons for this. It's impossible to warranty your diagnosis of your problem, so we simply won't. To know a part works, it needs to be installed. This means we have to install a part anyway, just to test it, so the labour on our end would be exactly the same. On top of all that, some of these parts are HARD to obtain. Our parts inventory is part of what makes us special, and what makes us special is not for sale.
Q) "What is the best way to contact OSG? "
A) E-mail us at info@oldschoolgamer.ca . This is the best/fastest way to get in touch with us. All e-mails are checked, and replies are provided. Please be sure to provide proper information with your inquiry, the type of system, etc. Incoherent e-mails or phone messages will not be responded to. Long distance phone messages will not be responded to. Please use e-mail whenever possible. If you don't use e-mail, you cannot use OSG mail order service.
Q) "Do you offer mail order service?"
A) We do offer worldwide mail order service. Mail order is NOT OSG's primary focus (local service is). OSG offers mail order as a courtesy, as our schedule permits. Contact us to see if we can accept your mail order submission.
Q) "How do I get shipping information?"
A) OSG does not provide shipping information over the phone. It is simply too easy to make errors that way. Simply send an e-mail to info@oldschoolgamer.ca and ask for shipping info, or put 'ship info' in the header of the message.
Q) "My console seems to be flashing colour lights, scratching discs, and painfully shocks me through the controller, & also is bleeding acid from the vents. How much will it cost to fix my system "X"? What exactly is wrong with it?"
A) OSG prides itself on it's Free Evaluations policy. However, an evaluation is impossible without seeing the system in shop. If you've tampered with it, it makes it harder to even hazard a guess, as we have no idea what we'll find in your console, as you may have changed who knows what. We can give you general repair cost highs and lows, and likely repair options for your problem. For specific, guaranteed estimates, We Must See The System first. The question is really whether or not you can afford a Free Evaluation.
Q) "So, when I bring my console to an OSG drop-off Depot, I can get an estimate there and then?"
A) No. The counter clerks at these stores are not trained in game console/ iPod repair. For specific information, contact OSG service directly.
Q) "Can I call the OSG drop-off Depot for status information on my system?"
A) The only information the OSG Drop-off depot will have for you is whether or not your system is there (waiting for OSG pick up, or already repaired and ready for your pickup). For time frame inquiries, technical questions, status, etc, contact OSG service directly, via e-mail, or phone. Only OSG service knows what OSG is doing with your system at any given time. For specific information, contact OSG service directly.
Q) Do you gaurantee you can fix any problem?
A) Of course not. If your system was submerged in sea water for 6 months , or melted into a blob in a house fire, or you tried to fix it, then your buddy tried to fix it, then your father's friends co-workers Aunt tried to fix your failed attempt, and now you want to send it to us, we may or may not be able to fix it. We don't know. We will certainly try to get you the best value options we can, no matter what. However, we are not magicians. We cannot and will not be held responsible for the condition of what you send to us. Remember, we don't get paid, if we can't fix your system, so we really do want to fix it if it's possible to do so.
Q) "Is shipping free?"
A) There are no ship costs incurred when you use an OSG drop off Depot, and approve a repair service. Shipping is not free for OSG Mail Order service. All efforts are made to give you good value shipping, at various service levels, with carrier requests honoured whenever possible. OSG ship charges are actual ship costs incurred only. If you do not need the broken unit returned, no return ship costs are incurred, the choice is always yours. OSG does not gouge on shipping, ever.
Q) "How do you guys know so much about repairing iPods and game consoles?"
A) Well, we did not go to iPod college or Xbox university, as those places simply do not exist. We consist of technicians with computer backgrounds, both PC and Mac, but with an console gaming bent, and a willingness to go where other technicians fear to tread.
Q) "This sounds great and all, but how do I know this is not some elaborate scam to steal my completely non functional system 'Y'?"
A) I'm always surprised by this question, and even more surprised by how often we get asked it, so here it is in our FAQ. It seems odd to me, that anyone would try to run a scam to steal 'broken' things, as the logic of it escapes me, why steal something and then fix it, when you can simply charge a fee to fix it? One would be a long term business idea, and the other would be a very short lived scam as online word would spread quickly for anybody to Google. Anyway, to put those of you who are extra cautious at ease, here are some links, some independent, some not, that talk about OSG's worldwide reputation (FYI 'omnedon' is the online handle for the owner of OSG, Steve Logan):
